Ruby on Rails Developer
Litmus
Full Time
Software / Programming
September 30, 2021
Job details
***This role is open to candidates in the United States (US) and United Kingdom (UK)
Who is Litmus?
We’re a tight-knit team that helps the world empower our customers to curate best-of-class email communication. Over the last 10+ years, we’ve built a reputation as one of the most trusted brands and thought-leaders in the industry—and it shines through to our customers. But don’t take our word for it, check out more about us here.
Quality communication is imperative; we value this in both our personal and work lives here at Litmus. Our email creation, testing, and analytics platform empowers marketers, designers, and agencies to confidently deliver quality, brand-aligned communications that delight our customers.
We work alongside some of the smartest people in our industry. We’re the change-agent for the most creative and supportive customers around. Litmus is championed by major global brands, including 9 of the Top 10 technology companies, 9 of the Top 10 U.S. banks, 10 of the Top 10 retailers, 9 of the Top 10 e-commerce brands, and 80% of the Fortune 100: How do we do this? We seek talent that is not a “culture fit,” rather a culture add.
What would I do at Litmus?
We’re looking for a remote Ruby on Rails developer—already eligible to work out of the US or UK (with EST / UTC time zone overlap) to help expand our product line, improve our existing products, and help build the next generation of Litmus tools. Continuing our mission to provide exceptional support to our growing customer base.
A typical day for one of our developers might include:
- Collaborating within our Rails team, and reviewing code to help everyone on the team do their best work.
- Writing and refactoring code in our Rails app, as well as in our JavaScript code, our Ember app, our Sass stylesheets, and wrapping all that work up inside Git.
- Talking with our Design team to figure out the best way to present a new feature to our customers.
- Working with our Product team to understand product and marketing goals, and work out a good path to implementing them.
- Partnering with our .NET team to integrate with our internal APIs; and
- Working with customer support to investigate and fix bugs.
What’s it like to work in Engineering at Litmus?
You’d work alongside a team of smart, curious people working on challenging problems. We’re a motley crew of developers with a diverse set of skills and backgrounds. Most importantly, we’re supportive of one another; we work as a team to enable each other to do our best work.
Best work can mean a lot of things. We care about testing, and apply that through a mix of unit, integration, and acceptance tests. That diligence allows us to ship early and often through an automated continuous integration and delivery process.
We’re also strong believers of using the right tool for the job. We lean heavily on Rails and the traditional request/response web lifecycle for most of our work. That said, we reach for component frameworks like Vue when there’s a clear benefit, and we’ve implemented full client-side MVC/SPA when the product demanded it.
We give our team members the time and space to learn and apply these and other tools correctly. We share our knowledge with each other on a regular basis through pairing, PR reviews, and team talks.
What can I expect in the first 60 days?
In your first week, you will:
- Receive your work computer, credentials, and anything else you might need to get started
- Set up your new laptop for development and help contribute any improvements you spot back to our onboarding documentation.
- Be introduced to your Engineering Buddy – someone you can lean on for help and pairing
- Walk through the product/features, various tools, and software we use
- Connect via All-Hands meeting with the Applications team
- Experience little wins. You’ll be set up with some smaller pieces of work to help you find your feet in our codebase
In your first month, you will:
- Begin a journey around our applications team, getting exposure working in one of our teams to gain experience of our problem domain and our technology stack
- Become familiar and comfortable with our software development process: Iterative development, writing well-tested code, working in a small cross-functional team
- Ship customer-facing features
After your first couple of months, you will:
- Start to feel a bit settled, having developed some good fundamentals for our problem space and gained exposure to how one or more teams work asynchronously. At this point, we’ll look to place you into a specific Applications team, where you’ll have a more focused domain to work in, and a team to support you on your journey.
What are we looking for in a candidate?
- You have a well-founded understanding of Ruby and Ruby on Rails. We won’t limit to ‘x’ years’ experience, but you should be able to impress us with your app building skills, confident use of Ruby and Rails, and understanding of web development. We’re happy to introduce you to the other technologies we use.
- You know how to build things from start to finish. You can identify a need, understand its impact, and seek out and work with others to deliver a well-crafted solution in a team environment—asking for help when needed.
- You have good communication skills. As a distributed team, it’s important that we’re able to understand each other, verbally and in writing, connecting at the appropriate level of abstraction. You communicate clearly and with empathy, whether you’re discussing refactoring options with a developer, or working with a designer to understand user experience.
- You write clean, thoughtful code. Our code is the home that we live in every day. You enjoy putting effort into crafting understandable and well-tested code, to make everyone’s shared development experience more enjoyable.
- You are eager to collaborate, learn and teach. Our Engineering team is friendly and supportive of each other, and we look for opportunities to learn from each other’s experience.
Why should I choose Litmus?
We offer everything you’d expect from a financially successful and profitable startup, with the stability of a company that’s been going strong for over ten years.
- 28 days of paid vacation—that’s on top of team retreats, wellness days, and public holidays.
- Family-friendly: Flexible schedules along with generous parental leave policies.
- Remote-friendly culture: You’ll join a completely distributed engineering team, and will benefit from the first-class remote experience we’ve created—giving you the flexibility to work where you want, with all of the tools and resources you need to succeed.
- The best tools and technology money can buy: Top of the line hardware, software, and whatever else you need to be awesome.
- Affinity Groups, volunteer days, platform for good: The space and time to make a positive impact both inside and outside of work.
What is the hiring process like?
Our hiring team reviews all applications. We communicate with candidates at every step of the process, letting them know if we’ll be moving forward, and what they can expect in the next phase.
- Initial interview: In a relaxed, Slack/text-based chat, you’ll meet the hiring team, tell us about yourself, and learn more about Litmus and this role in particular.
- Sample project: We’ll ask you to complete a time-boxed exercise on your schedule as an example of your best work. Your code, commit history, and resume will be anonymized and passed to the engineering team for review.
- Follow-up interview: You’ll meet with the hiring team on a Zoom call to discuss your sample project, share context around decisions made along the way, and chat about other technical topics.
- Final round: Spend a day pairing with your hiring manager on extensions to your sample project, and meet some of our engineering leaders and the rest of our Rails team over Zoom!
Not sure if you meet all the requirements? Please apply! We know there is no job description that can measure a person’s attitude, aptitude, or amplitude (the ability to turn it up a notch) and so we highly encourage you to apply.
It’s the company you keep. The people at Litmus are truly amazing—celebrating what makes each individual unique. With outstanding profitable growth and the trust of more than 700,000 marketers, you know you’re part of a winning team.
Litmus provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.

Full Stack Engineer – Ruby / AWS
Boundless
Full Time
Software / Programming
September 30, 2021
Job details
PRODUCT ENGINEER
Experienced in Ruby-on-Rails, AWS & DevOps
BOUNDLESS – PRODUCT ENGINEER – RUBY ON RAILS
Fantastic opportunity for a product-minded Ruby Engineer to join a VC-funded, remote-first start-up focussed on building the future of multi-country employment & payroll.
Boundless was born from the belief that people should have the freedom to shape their work lives without forfeiting their right to secure employment. We started by looking for ways to offer compliance across borders. It’s what our founders had all struggled with in previous teams, but along the way, we figured that this is about so much more than ticking compliance boxes and not getting in trouble. We have since been raising the bar of what great remote employment looks like.
With each new country that we establish our complete infrastructure and build internal expertise, we try to set the gold standard of remote employment.
Currently, 19 people across 7 countries are working hard to make that a reality and help democratise access to well-paid jobs worldwide.
Together we are commanding a rallying call to companies who are changing the way work works.
We’re focused on filling the Boundless team with people who ‘get it’. People who have experience working themselves remotely or who have tried to solve this problem before. People who enjoy the quality of life that remote working offers and want to help others do the same.
People who care.
We are looking for an experienced Product Engineer (Ruby) with devops experience who can contribute to all aspects of the software lifecycle from improving our systems of continuous delivery to feature development. You will join our small, but perfectly formed engineering team and our third engineering hire and work alongside CTO Emily, Product Design Lead Brendan and Product Engineers Matthew and Piotr.
We are an Agile leaning team using Github, CircleCI, LaunchDarkly and AWS to deliver our software to customers.
Our application is built with a no-nonsense Ruby-on-Rails approach, i.e. Server rendered HTML, TurboLinks, Javascript managed by Stimulus and Stimulus Reflex, Tailwind CSS, PostgreSQL.
Our ethos is to focus on building stable software that solves our customers’ problems.
Reliability is at the core of everything we do.
THE ROLE
As a Ruby engineer in the product team, things you will work on include:
- Continuous development of our web platform to serve customers, employees and partners as we launch in new countries.
- Building a top-class user experience throughout the application.
- Improving our system of continuous delivery.
- Managing AWS instances.
- Ensuring traceability of actions throughout our payroll process.
- Automation of payments integrations relating to invoicing and employee payroll.
- Building internal tooling to allow Boundless Payroll and HR staff to serve our customers efficiently.
- Delivering quality code that adheres to best practices; participating in code review.
- Advocating for implementation of best practices within the team and the technology.
- Consolidating our approach to testing and quality assurance.
- Integrating with third party APIs to achieve desired functionality within our systems.
- Data security and compliance with data regulations.
- Getting involved in customer support.
This role will suit you if you have:
- 5+ years experience building production-grade web applications in Ruby on Rails (including flavours of HTML, CSS, JS, SQL).
- A strong interest in DevOps and have put continuous delivery systems in place in previous jobs. You are not scared to get your hands dirty with AWS ( CloudFormation, ElasticBeanstalk, EC2 etc), Docker, Circle CI or equivalent technologies.
- Excellent Object Oriented Programming skills and experience implementing non-Rails design patterns.
- Experience building software iteratively using feature flags.
- Experience working in an agile environment.
- Experience writing and managing a test suite using rspec or equivalent.
- Experience working with queueing systems, e.g. Redis is an advantage.
- Experience working on strong engineering teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a high EQ.
BENEFITS
We ‘eat our own dog-food’! Boundless is a remote-first team.
That means that you can work remotely from any of the countries that Boundless supports – which you can see here: https://boundlesshq.com/how-it-works/countries/ (ideally in timezones which are + / – 4 GMT) and you will enjoy the security of having fully compliant employment conditions and statutory employment benefits.
Time Off – Everyone in the team is entitled to 35 days per year (including public holidays). Your well-being is high priority. You are encouraged to use this allowance and have a proper break to re-charge your batteries!
Boundless company holidays – We have 4 Boundless holidays per year – these are on the last Friday of the quarter. This means that everyone across the company has a day off together so that you can genuinely switch-off for the weekend in the knowledge that you won’t be receiving any Slack or email notifications!
Flexible working hours – We work a standard 8 hours day but our core hours are 11.00-15.00 Dublin time, where you are expected to be contactable – leaving you to fit in the remaining 4 hours whenever works best for you. At Boundless, we want our work to fit our lifestyles. We don’t believe in counting hours and we want everyone to focus on goals and achievements instead. We know that everyone has different needs when it comes to how they work, when they’re most productive, and how they manage their life. We’re all responsible adults, and we trust each other.
WFH/Co-work Stipends – So that you can set up from a co-working space if you prefer not to work from home.
Generous Equipment/Hardware Budget
Employee Assistance Program
Annual budget to attend events, meet-ups and conferences
Monthly remote team socials (under current Covid restrictions)
Quarterly International in-person team retreats when Covid restrictions allow
Industry benchmarked salary – We benchmark our salaries to the ‘industry standard’ for tech start-ups and we believe in offering a fair salary that not only reflects your value at your level of experience in your field but also your value to us.
- A growth mindset, and an appetite for learning.
- Previously worked on a distributed team and enjoy working remotely
…and if you are:
- Pragmatic about getting things done and have the ability to recognise and prioritise work that is important.
- Comfortable operating in an environment with a relatively high degree of uncertainty.

Senior Full-Stack Engineer
SessionLab
Full Time
Software / Programming
September 30, 2021
Job details
SessionLab is the leading platform for workshop facilitation and process design. We are working to empower people to design and run better workshops, with more than 100.000 professionals using our Software-as-a-Service product.
We are looking for a senior full-stack developer with frontend focused experience to help us scale our platform and deliver more value to our customers.
You’ll be our fourth developer, working closely with our CTO and 2 senior developers, as well as our designer and product manager. You’ll build new and exciting features, improve platform security and maintain stability of our infrastructure. You will have a chance to work on and influence our whole stack, including DevOps, with an initial focus on the frontend.
We are a bootstrapped and profitable software business, headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia, and working across Europe with a fully remote 8-person team (team members currently in Sweden, Hungary, UK, Russia, Spain, Croatia and Austria). Therefore, we are looking for somebody who is self-motivated, independent and comfortable working in a remote-first environment.
Who we are looking for:
- You have a deep React knowledge and experience.
- You excel at CSS and enjoy developing Design Systems.
- You have experience with the Rails framework (or similar like Django).
- You are comfortable building full stack features from scratch.
- You are comfortable working in a small startup where cross discipline work is encouraged.
- You are good at problem solving critical production issues in a timely manner.
- You seek to take on responsibilities and take ownership of the work you do.
- You thrive working independently, but also enjoy collaborating with people from different disciplines and you always try to look at the big picture.
- Experience working remotely.
- You are based within UTC-8 and UTC+3 and have a few work hours overlap with 8am to 3pm UTC
Advantages (not a must but a big plus):
- Experience with technologies in our stack (Mobx, Webpack, PostgreSQL, Pusher).
- Experience with UX/UI design and prototyping.
- Experience in working on real-time sync in collaborative applications.
- Experience in scaling web applications and optimizing frontend code.
- Experience with workflow tools (Github Actions, Sentry, Mixpanel, Jira).
- Experience with deploying production grade systems on Amazon Web Services (EC2, CloudFront, S3).
- Contribution to open source projects.
- Experience with maintaining WordPress.
So what will I be doing?
To give you an honest perspective of where we are now: we have a stable application and infrastructure with a relatively up-to-date codebase and an extensive customer-driven roadmap of new features and improvements we want to bring to the app.
This is where you come into the picture: we need somebody who can work full-time on bringing new features and improvements to the app.
In more practical terms:
- Building new features that have frontend or full-stack requirements.
- Work with our designer to define and maintain a consistent Design System.
- Debugging production related issues.
- Improve frontend performance.
- Working with our designer to provide technical input on new designs.
- Working with the CTO and the other developers to improve the developer experience.
- Scaling the infrastructure.
Why is this great for me?
- Opportunity to get involved early in building and scaling a product in a fast-growing market.
- Your role and responsibility will grow as our company grows.
- Work remotely and create your own schedule (we believe in trust and autonomy).
- Stable working environment that values work-life balance.
- Motivated co-workers.
- You will also have a chance to travel a couple of times per year to live company meetings (pandemic permitting 😕).
- Open-minded working culture where we encourage sharing opinions and feedback.
- You are passionate about building stable apps that provide great user experiences. 🙂
Compensation
The compensation range for this role is between €60,000 to €84,000 annually on B2B contract or matching gross salary as an employee (official employment status only available in certain countries). The actual compensation offered to a successful candidate will be based on relative experience and skills.
The compensation includes 20 calendar days of holiday per year plus your local holidays as paid time off, and additional remote working or home office setup support.
Application process
Here is also the outline of the whole application process, so you know what to expect:
- Fill in and submit the application form – we will try to get back to you within 2 working days, but sometimes it might take slightly longer
- A short (up to 30-minute) non-technical video interview where we try to see if there is culture fit between you and SessionLab
- A technical interview (60-minute) video interview where we will assess if your technical skills are right for the role
- Top candidates will be invited for a one-day paid contract work where you get to experience how we work and we get to see how you thrive under a busy day of work.
- If all goes well, we will make you an offer and if you accept, welcome you to our team!
Want to learn more about us?
Check out below for some bits about who we are:
- Read more about recent team retreat.
- How we wrapped up 2020.
- As a fully remote team we live in UK, Spain, Sweden, Hungary, Russia, Croatia and Austria.
- Half of us have kids.
- We tend to meet live (when not in pandemic) twice a year and enjoy some nice activities (like cooking, escape rooms and board games).
- We do also have social virtual activities (and always looking for new ideas on fun ways to spend some virtual time together).

Full Stack WordPress Developer
Yoko Co
Full Time
Software / Programming
September 30, 2021
Job details
Know WordPress development better than you know your own family? Let’s team up.
At Yoko Co, we know that life is short, which is why we exclusively serve clients who are working to make a positive impact. From rescuing pets, to saving lives, to building communities for brilliant minds, the code you’d write here will help make the world a better place.
Our team is made up of people who are passionate about the work they do, the clients they serve, and, importantly, their craft. We also care about each other — we don’t think of one another as coworkers or employees, but as fellow humans. From developers to designers, project managers to strategists, we bring out the best in each other.
Ready to gulp down this Kool-Aid? We’d love to hear from you.
If you work here, you’ll:
- Write clean, semantic, well-commented code to power websites, make WordPress do amazing things, and build nifty interactions.
- Work closely with other developers, designers, project managers, and strategists on a variety of projects, large and small.
- Get involved with projects early on, to contribute to strategy and technical planning.
- Help expand our codebase and tools, participate in code reviews, and grow with your fellow developers.
You’ll do well in this job if you:
- Have a strong handle on HTML and CSS, understand general UI/UX best practices, and possess a sharp eye for turning design mockups into pixel-perfect layouts.
- Are skilled in PHP (particularly WordPress PHP), and have a solid understanding of OOP concepts.
- Can handle vanilla Javascript like it ain’t no thang, and have a working knowledge of popular frameworks like React.
- Have experience working with Git.
- Understand the principles behind SEO, web accessibility, performance optimization.
- Love WordPress for the things it’s great at, but also have the awareness to know when it’s not the right tool for the job.
- Bonus points: Experience working with SSOs, the REST API, headless WordPress, and static site generators.
However, maybe don’t apply if:
- You prefer to work on a single big project at a time. We all have to do a bit of juggling around here, and while we wish we could pour ourselves into just one thing for weeks at a time to make it perfect, that’s often not the reality.
- You’ve ever said “that’s not my job” or “that’s below my pay grade.” While we try to utilize everyone in the best way we possibly can, sometimes things can get dicey and we have to pitch in to help reach the finish line.
The interview process:
You’ll do 3-4 interviews with various members of our team, starting with a short culture interview, and then moving onto more specialized conversations. Somewhere in the middle of the process, you’ll likely do a short practical test to ensure you can deliver at the level it takes to be successful here.
If you work here:
You’ll get a competitive salary, unlimited time off, a flexible schedule, the ability to work wherever you want, a personal development budget, federal holidays and multiple weeks off at the end of the year to recharge. If you’re in the US, we also offer health insurance, disability and life insurance, and 401k matching.
A little more about us:
We’ve been in business for over a decade, our whole team is remote, we were named a 2020 Best Place to Work by the Inc. 5000 and the Washington Business Journal, and you can poke around our website to learn more.

About Us
At Close, we’re building the sales communication and collaboration platform of the future. With our roots as the very first sales CRM to include built-in calling, we’re leading the industry in sales automation—helping companies to close more deals, faster than ever. Since our founding in 2013, we’ve grown to become a profitable, 100% globally distributed team of ~50 high-performing, happy people that are dedicated to building a product our customers love.
We are seeking a Marketing Coordinator that will be instrumental in supporting our team with content production, promotion, and the optimization of our marketing workflow. This position requires a highly motivated individual with strong writing, research, and organization skills.

Your self-motivation and relentless drive to learn are appreciated by all.
You understand your critical part in the overall machine, graciously accepting thoughts and feedback from others while offering your own expertise where you can. You pride yourself on being “overly communicative” — keeping everyone up to date with the latest product marketing wins, losses, and initiatives. A ‘growth mindset’ approach is applied to everything you do.
You excel working remotely on small teams with a high level of autonomy. You can devise your own schedule and effectively manage your workload based on the biggest opportunities and company objectives.
You are in a North American time zone.
Above all, you understand that your success—and our success—hinges on the satisfaction and loyalty of our customers.
